Executive summaries

Question

What needs to be included in an executive summary?

Answer

An executive summary is a common feature of management, strategy, marketing and science reports. Be careful as an executive summary is different to an introduction; an executive summary should give the reader a summary of the contents of the entire report. The executive summary should include a statement of the purpose of the report (what you aimed to achieve), a statement of the procedures used to obtain the findings for the report (the methods used), a statement of what the main findings are (the results that you get from your analysis), and finally, recommendations given in the report should be stated at the end of the executive summary.
