Would a chicken dinner make a better Labour leader than Jeremy Corbyn?<\/p>\n
Following a poorly led remain campaign, Jeremy Corbyn\u2019s credentials have come under intense scrutiny and a new Labour leadership election has been called. However, just what are Corbyn\u2019s credentials to lead the party and how do these compare to those of a chicken dinner? Corbyn\u2019s biggest claim to party leadership is the massive increase of membership he has recruited to the cause since he became leader. Following Labour’s heavy defeat in the 2015 general election under Ed Miliband, the party membership stood at 187,000 and now just a year on under Corbyn\u2019s stewardship, this number has reached over 500,000, dwarfing the Conservative membership of 150,000. It should also be noted that while only 40 of 192 Labour MPs backed Corbyn during the vote of no confidence in June, only 35 MPs had backed him during the leadership debate, with many of these, including the current mayor of London Sadiq Khan, stating they only decided to nominate Corbyn to ensure there was a left-wing Labour voice within the contest. However, Corbyn went on to win the party leadership with an incredible 59.7% of the voter turnout, a victory of 40% over his nearest rival. Finally, Corbyn\u2019s vast political experience should be noted, he is one of the longest standing MPs and has held office for over 30 years, leaving him well equipped to lead a party. Therefore, although the politics of a chicken dinner are significantly less controversial\u2026 I mean, who doesn\u2019t love one, the logistics of an edible Labour leader are too complex for this to be any more than a hypothetical musing, ultimately meaning that Corbyn is the more superior candidate in reality.<\/p>\n
