Effective student time management involves prioritisation, scheduling, task division, training, and digital tools, boosting performance.

Effective time management is crucial for students to enhance their academic performance and reduce stress. Several techniques have been identified as beneficial for students in managing their time effectively.

Key time management techniques include:

Prioritisation and goal settings:

Students should prioritize tasks and set clear goals and deadlines. This helps in organising tasks based on importance and urgency, making study sessions more focused and less overwhelming (Siresha and Kodali, 2024; halYazhini, Priya and Gayathri, 2021; Febriani, Dewi and Heng, 2024).

Scheduling and planning:

Creating a daily or weekly schedule can help students allocate specific time slots for different activities, ensuring a balanced approach to study and leisure. Using planners or digital tools can aid in maintaining this schedule (Siresha and Kodali, 2024; Holili et al., 2024; halYazhini, Priya and Gayathri, 2021).

Task division and breaks:

Breaking down larger tasks into smaller, manageable parts with scheduled breaks can prevent fatigue and maintain productivity. This approach helps in maintaining focus and avoiding burnout (Lyalyuk, Lyalyuk and Polishchuk, 2020; Loreto et al., 2024).

Time management training:

Participating in time management training programs can significantly improve students’ ability to manage their time effectively. Such training often includes techniques like stopping procrastination and effective time use, which can lead to better academic outcomes (Holili et al., 2024; Trentepohl et al., 2022; Febriani, Dewi and Heng, 2024).

Use of tools and apps:

Encouraging the use of time management tools and apps can support students in organizing their tasks and reminders, although many students currently underutilize these resources (Loreto et al., 2024).

Research indicates that effective time management is positively correlated with improved academic performance and reduced academic stress. Students who engage in structured time management practices tend to perform better academically and experience less stress (Uzir et al., 2019; Trentepohl et al., 2022; Febriani, Dewi and Heng, 2024; Liu et al., 2024).
